NIX HEALTH RECEIVES BARIATRIC AND HEART QUALITY AWARDS

San Antonio, Texas (March 22, 2011) – Nix Health recently received the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence® designation from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Get With The Guidelines®–Heart Failure Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.

The Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgeons and facilities that provide superior bariatric surgery patient care and promote optimal levels of performance. Bariatric Surgeons, Dr. Keith Wright* and Dr. Gerardo Cárcamo*, along with the Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center staff, have demonstrated excellence in the 10 requirements for hospital-based bariatric programs, which include surgical experience and volumes, responsive critical care support, patient support groups and long-term patient follow-up. This achievement demonstrates Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center’s unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver the highest level of bariatric surgical care possible. Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center has been recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence since 2007.  

The American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® - Heart Failure Gold Quality Achievement Award signifies that Nix Health has reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients with 85 percent compliance for at least 24 months to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients. Get With The Guidelines is a quality improvement initiative that provides hospital staff with tools that follow evidence-based guidelines and procedures in caring for heart failure patients to prevent future hospitalizations. As a recipient of this award for the second year in a row, Nix Health has been able to apply high quality, evidence-based procedures for treating and caring for heart failure patients and improving in patient outcomes.
