Your surgery day will be a long, but exciting day. Before surgery, you will have been told when to arrive at our facility. Here is what you can expect during your surgery day:
- You will need to visit the admission department on the 17th floor the morning of your surgery.
- Once the admission process is complete, you will be sent to the Outpatient Surgery floor where you will check in and be given a room.
- The nursing staff in the Outpatient Department will help you prepare for transfer to the surgical unit. Your family can visit you at this point, although they may be asked to leave the room during some pre-operative testing.
- Once ready, you will go to the Pre-Op and holding section in the Surgical Department. Your family may go to the waiting room on the 20th floor until your surgery is completed.
- In the Pre-Op and holding area, you will meet with the Anesthesiologist and Surgeon. You will also be asked a series of questions, and your medical history will be reviewed with you.
- After your surgery is completed, you will be taken to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit or PACU, where you will be monitored until you are ready to be transferred back to your room.
- The final step is a test called a Barium Swallow. This test is performed by drinking a solution called Barium Sulfate. Images are taken as the Barium is swallowed, allowing the radiologist to verify proper placement of the band.
- After you return to your room, you will be transferred to the nursing floor, where you can get up and start walking.
- The nurse will make your follow-up appointments with the surgeon’s office, and go over your post-op diet, wound care and discharge instructions with you.
- Once you are ready, and your doctor has given clearance, you are ready to be discharged and begin the next stage in your exciting weight loss journey.
