After surgery, you’ll need a new nutrition plan. You’ll learn about the healthy changes you can and need to make in your diet and lifestyle from the staff at the Nix Weight Loss Surgery Center. It’s very important, for your overall success, to follow your new eating and drinking instructions beginning immediately after the surgery.
Following gastric bypass surgery, you will not be able to eat too many things right away. The recovery diet will progress from liquids to pureed foods to soft foods over the first three months before you start eating solid foods. The slow food progression is necessary for proper healing after surgery, especially at the surgical sites, and to allow your body to get used to new ways of eating.
In the first few weeks after your adjustable gastric band surgery, you will be on a liquid diet. As you heal, you will gradually progress to pureed foods (three to four weeks post-op) and then soft foods (five weeks post-op). Finally, after about six weeks, you will be able to eat solid foods.
